Noble hails massive week for Hammers as he insists results are all important

Last updated : 18 December 2016

The Hammers secured successive 1-0 victories after following up their midweek win over Burnley with another narrow success against Hull.

For the second time in four days skipper Noble was the match-winner from the penalty spot - and this time he put his spot-kick straight in rather than netting the rebound.

But it was another unconvincing display, with luckless Hull hitting the woodwork three times - once via Noble's deflection - and seeing an effort cleared off the line.

The man-of-the-match poll on the official West Ham Twitter account summed up events at the London Stadium, with the post winning the vote by a landslide.

And Noble admitted: "I've headed one on to my own post and it came back out, and sometimes those go in against you.

"But seven points in a week is massive for us, as is two clean sheets at home and two 1-0 wins

They weren't the best performances, but these are the games you have to win.

"Hull and Burnley are probably the most honest, hard-working teams in the league, but we competed with them.

"The result was 100 per cent more important than the performance

In the position we were in, winning is all that matters

Results breed confidence and hopefully that's starting to build up."

While West Ham moved five points clear of the drop zone, Hull will spend Christmas on the foot of the table.

Manager Mike Phelan is looking to the January transfer window for reinforcements, but knows he has to persuade potential new recruits to sign up for a relegation scrap.

"We've found ourselves at the bottom of the league after probably our best game of the season," he said.

"We want to bring players in if we can

I'm sure we'll be able to add to the group.

"It's tough for every team, even clubs at the top want that one special player to change their fortunes.

"We're at the other end and we have to advertise ourselves to players with the grit, determination and courage to battle it out and who want to put their reputations on the line

There are players who will do that."
