West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan recovering from minor heart surgery

The Premier League club confirmed to Press Association Sport on Wednesday that the operation was a minor, routine procedure.

The 67-year-old went under the knife for planned surgery, with his son David Sullivan Jr tweeting a picture of his father lying in his hospital bed on his mobile phone after coming round.

In his tweet, Sullivan Jr went on to suggest his father was in fact already back to negotiating the arrival of new players at West Ham, with the transfer window closing in a week's time.

"Dads just had heart surgery woke up from operation and is straight back on the phone to sign more players," he said.

A striker is certainly the Hammers' priority, and manager Slaven Bilic said in his press conference ahead of Thursday night's Europa League play-off against Romanian side Astra Giurgiu that the club were working hard to bring in a new forward with Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho all injured.

But the Croatian, who spoke of his admiration for Manchester City's Wilfried Bony and Juventus' Simone Zaza, added: "I don't negotiate

I'm just the manager

I just say to the chairmen and (chief scout) Tony Henry, we talk and then they do it.''

Sullivan often leads the negotiations for new signings and will be key to West Ham securing any new recruits before the transfer deadline
