In a thrilling encounter with Southampton at the Boleyn Ground the Hammers held firm to ensure they pick up 4 points from two games in which they have given the opposition a man advantage for the majority of the game.

The Hammers dominated the opening 20 minutes of the game and when Mark Noble was fouled in the box a penalty was given to the home side.  On the award of the penalty, a scuffle ensued and Matty Taylor pushed Southampton striker Billy Sharp, who went down like a sack of spuds.  Taylor was sent-off before Mark Noble stepped up to fire home the penalty.

Rob Green then made a number of world class saves to keep the Hammers in front at half time.  The Hammers looked to be holding out for a famous victory before Hooiveld poked the ball home for the Saints following a free-kick into the box.

Both teams then came close to stealing all three points as the game ran out of time.
