The Hammers started the game brightly and were ahead after only 9 minutes when skipper Kevin Nolan rose to meet a Guy Demel cross and powerfully head the ball home.

Just before half-time Jack Collison got on the score-sheet when he broke the offside trap and went on to round goalkeeper Flahavan and tuck the ball into the empty net.

The Hammers continued to press after half-time and it wasn’t until around the hour mark when the inevitable substitutions started.  Despite the changes in personnel, the Hammers continued to enjoy the best of the game but were unable to add to their advantage.
