Dean looked set to make his England debut tomorrow in a pointless friendly against Greece before breaking down on the training pitch this morning.
A statement on the FA website reads, “Dean Ashton has been withdrawn from the England squad after a scan revealed he has a broken ankle.
”The 22 year old suffered an injury on Tuesday while training at Old Trafford with the rest of the England team and a scan later unveiled the extent of the damage.
”The West Ham forward, who was called up to the senior squad for the first time, had been in contention for a starting berth in Steve McClaren's first game as Head Coach.”
