New manager Steve McClaren announced his first squad this afternoon and could not resist taking a first look at the leaner and meaner Dean Ashton.
“Dean Is a player who has come through the system, done very well, had big money moves, has proven a success at West Ham and I think he deserves his opportunity.”
McClaren has decided to leave out former Captain David Beckham as well as former Hammer David James and Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell.
There are recalls for ‘mini-judas' Jermain Defoe, Luke Young, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Darren Bent and Phil Neville.
