Ashton had a quiet debut, failing to find the back of the net before being substituted. He has been in fine form in pre-season however and does look set to be named in Capello's next squad with Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney both unfit and unwell.
According the evening standard Capello said, "We followed Dean in a lot of games last season and he was very good but he had injury problems before that,"
"He has since told me he is fit now. I spoke with him in
