Shortly after the final whistle, owners David Gold and David Sullivan and vice-chairman Karren Brady had acquired the use of an office at the DW stadium to inform Grant of his departure.

Grant then had to do his post-match press conference and when asked whether he was still the manager of West Ham he replied “I’m not going to talk about myself.”

Following the press conference a West Ham spokesman entered the room and informed everybody that Grant had indeed been sacked.

The statement from the board reads, “The club can confirm that Avram Grant is no longer the manager of West Ham United.

“First-team coach Kevin Keen will take charge of the team for the final home match of the season against Sunderland on Sunday 22 May.”
