The 25-year-old has returned to his homeland to join Liga MX side Cruz Azul.
Barrera joined the club back in July 2010 on a four-year-deal for a fee believed to be around £4 million.
Barrera then played only made 23 appearances for the club with most of those coming from the substitute’s bench. He was unable to help save the club from relegation and was then sent out on loan to Spanish side Real Zaragoza last season.
