And, Di Canio, who is sure to leave Upton Park during the summer, paid tribute to the Hammers fans who gave their support to the club throughout the season.
"When you go down it's not only the players' fault. I take my responsibility but many times over a season things go wrong," Di Canio told Sky Sports after the game at St. Andrew's.
"Is it a surprise that we have gone down if you've got the power to change something and you don't?"
