West Ham have played Bolton four times in the Premiership, and the Hammers have won 3 out of those four, with the other result being a draw, with the goal tally also massively favouring the us, with eight goals for, and just the one against. For a more detailed look at the previous league results between the two teams, scroll down to the end of this article.
With Bolton currently stuck in a rut, being in the precarious postition of not having won any of the last 11 games, the Hammers should seek to capitalise on their poor form with an away victory. Obviously after Wednesday night, the Hammers will be looking to restore some pride to our battered ship, but the boys will be without the talents of Messers di Canio, Repka, Carrick and maybe even Sinclair.
Repka and di Canio are both suspended, the latter of whom will also miss the Boro game at Upton Park coming up next. Michael Carrick is still recovering from his double hernia operation, whilst Trevor Sinclair rates himself unlikely to feature in this important fixture:
"I was struggling with a little bug on Wednesday and I've not improved. The gash still niggles me now and again, though I can get through the games and training, but I started feeling a bit grizzly yesterday and got an injection off the doc.
"I have woken up today I and don't feel too great so it is touch and go for Bolton. We need to be going there looking for points and we have not got the biggest squad, so it is important that everyone with a bit of experience is available."
West Ham will probably therefore look to start with Schemmel (his last before suspension against Boro), Dailly, Winterburn and probably Foxe in defence, in front of the in-form David James. Don Hutchison should be fit for the game, to line up with Joe Cole, Steve Lomas and either Sinclair (if he's fit), Labant or Moncur.
Jermain Defoe, having scored two on Wednesday night will probably start with Freddie Kanoute up front, with his break for the Chelsea match due to a hamstring tweak hopefully putting him in the clear as far as injury is concerned.
It goes to show that West Ham's squad is painfully small, with attack and midfield having only one fitting replacement when there's an injury, but any more and the team looks stretched. Ian Pearce's return should hopefully add an extra quality defender to the equation, whilst Vladimir Labant is potentially another player to use as back up.
With few options for the bench, Glenn will be hoping that the injury situation at Upton Park doesn't get any worse, with Europe in sight if they are avoided, or relegation an issue if the squad is depleted much further.
