Steve McClaren had originally told the Hammers that the on-loan defender wouldn't be allowed to play in the third round tie at White Hart Lane but after some friendly persuasion from Alan Pardew the Boro boss changed his mind.
"I pulled on his heart a little bit, said we were struggling and desperately needed him, and thankfully his conscience went hard enough to make the decision," the Hammers boss told the clubs official website.
