Brooking: It's still out of our hands

The 1-0 win at Maine Road took the Hammers to within two points of fourth-bottom Bolton, with Leeds just a point better off.

"We have done our homework and know that Bolton don't start their game at Southampton until after we have finished on Saturday," said Brooking after the game.

"It is still out of our hands but we would be pretty unlucky if we won our final two games and still didn't stay up.

"Nobody thought a point would be enough today. We took a bit of a gamble at the end with three up front and I was delighted to see the ball go in, even if I didn't know who scored.

"When you sit in the stand you can see all the angles and who isn't being picked up. In the dug-out it's just a mass of bodies. You yell out to people and they can't hear you and it really is difficult.

"I've no intention of extending this beyond the two games we still have to go but at least this result keeps everything bubbling for us."
