Brooking slams agents

The 20-year-old striker's request for a move away from Upton Park came less than 24-hours after the Hammers relegation to the first division and Brooking thinks its Defoe's advisors that have forced the issue.

"The timing of the transfer request makes Jermain look an insensitive young man and everyone who has worked with him will know that is not the case," Brooking told the London Evening Standard.

"Whoever advised him to submit the request has let him down badly.

"We want to hold on to Jermain. He's a smashing lad and has two years left on his contract.

"I firmly believe his advisers have made a serious mistake."
