The front-man has been named on the standby list for the England World Cup squad should anything happen to the current quartet of Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck and Rickie Lambert.
“It has been a long season for me,” he told the official site. “When I was going through all the recovery work to get back from injury, I had to wait what seemed a long time for my chance to be back.
“What with not being able to come back until the last part of the season to play, I still feel fresh now and I would be pretty happy if there were still a few games to play, I must admit.
“But it is the end of the season so I will have to wait a bit. It will be just as important to re-charge the batteries and then I just want to kick on and be raring to go from pre-season.”
