Davenport was initially in a serious and critical condition and was extremely lucky to still be alive after being knifed repeatedly in what appears to have been a domestic incident.

He is now said to be responding well to treatment and his condition is stable.

Speaking after yesterday’s game with Tottenham Zola said, “We are very sorry for what happened to him.  We imagine what he has been through and we are close to him. Hopefully, he will get better very quickly.

“The doctor told me that the situation is stable and he’s okay and, obviously, the situation will become clearer in the next few days. For the moment, the situation is stable.”
