Cole: Off to the Far East?
Joe Cole's second-half appearance for England against Italy the other day turned a few heads certainly, with some great dribbles and persistance shown to create Fowler's goal. Some in the press have concentrated on the first Italian goal, stating it as a prime reason why Joe should not be on the plane bound for the Far East. But Joe is philosophical about it:

"If I don't make it, I won't be crying. I've never let anything in football get me down. There are other aspects of life to worry about. I've only played three senior internationals but I've made two goals.

"When I lost the ball, I wasn't the last man and he did score a super goal. I know I make mistakes but I'm the sort of person who prefers to concentrate on the positives."

Joe knows he is not a ready made footballer - he is still young and has a lot to learn - much of which cann only come through experience, and learning off his elders.

"There is nothing anyone can say to put me off my game. I listen to people like Glenn Roeder and Sven and try and learn things off them. I'm only 20 and learned a lot just being around world-class players like Beckham, Scholes and Fowler for a couple of days. Those guys have all got a wealth of experience to call on, which I haven't got yet.

"But they're all around 25 to 27 and I'll bet they are 10 times better players now than when they were 20. It wasn't as though I had a terrible game against Italy. What counts now is how you react. My reaction will be to knuckle down.

"I have got improving to do and I am learning all the time. But I won't let anything in football get me down because there are other aspects in life that are far more important."
