The Republic of Ireland striker, who was being chased by both clubs, has chosen a move to The Walkers Stadium in preference to joining up with his former international boss Mick McCarthy at the Stadium of Light.

West Ham will receive £500,000 for Connolly.

"We needed to replace Paul Dickov, which is a hard act to follow, but in David we have signed someone with a proven goal scoring record," Foxes boss Micky Adams said.

"He averages one goal in every two appearances for his league clubs and one in four for his country - for whom he has won 40 caps. We are hoping that he will score the goals that will put us in the promotion picture."
