Curbishley met with Eggert Magnusson and the board of directors yesterday to discuss details of a contract and negotiations are continuing at a very quick speed.

It is understood that Curbs will be offered a 3-year contract with wages of around £2 million per year. He will also be offered a sizeable transfer budget of around £25 million pounds in order to strengthen his squad in a bid to avoid relegation to the Championship.

The 49-year-old former West Ham player has been out of work since May after leaving London rivals Charlton.

His first test as new boss will be to restore some harmony to the Upton Park dressing room and to prepare his new side for the visit of current Premiership leaders Manchester United.
