West Ham boss David Moyes has claimed that the club will 'certainly' consider bringing in another goalkeeper during the January transfer window, after first-choice shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianksi was once again forced off during the Hammers' defeat to Sheffield United on Friday.
Fabianski injured his hip during the east London side's draw with Bournemouth back in September and went on to miss 11 league matches, with West Ham losing eight of those 11 games.
He made his return during the 2-1 defeat to Leicester towards the end of December and was named in the starting lineup for the fourth game in a row on Friday evening for the tussle with Sheffield United. However, the 34-year-old went to ground after just 13 minutes, signalling to the bench immediately after taking a goal-kick and beating the ground.
BBC Sport's Simon Stone is reporting that the goalkeeper suffered a recurrence of the hip injury that has troubled him this season and, as a result, West Ham face an anxious wait to see how bad the injury is. Fabianski himself said there was a 'big risk' of a repeat if he was rushed back into action back in November.
After the match, manager Moyes claimed that he was unsure of the severity of Fabianski's injury, but admitted that the club were still looking at bringing in another shot-stopper.
"We will have to see how Lucasz's injury is, whether it is a bad one or it is just a recurrence and he will be back shortly. But bringing someone in is certainly something we will have to look at."
David Martin came on to replace Fabianski, but he was at fault for the only goal of the game, misplacing a pass which was intercepted. Moyes thought his side had grabbed a point when Robert Snodgrass scored in the final seconds of the game, but his goal was controversially ruled out by VAR.
