David Moyes and Chris Hughton have emerged as early contenders to take over the vacant managerial role at West Ham, following the departure of Manuel Pellegrini.
A 2-1 defeat against a second-string Leicester City on Saturday proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back for Pellegrini, where the Hammers' Pablo Fornals scored his first Premier League in between strikes from Kelechi Iheanacho and Demarai Gray.
West Ham are now looking ahead to their next appointment, and The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg reports that either Moyes or Hughton are the early contenders to take over at the London Stadium.
It's claimed that the club are looking for a quick solution to their managerial vacancy, so for that reason, West Ham do not want to approach managers who are already in a job - skipping negotiations with other clubs in the process.
Hughton, who was most recently in charge at Brighton & Hove Albion, has been a free agent since he was replaced by Graham Potter on the south coast in May.
Meanwhile, Moyes, who's been away from the game 18 months, could return to the club where he was last employed and took charge of 31 games across all competitions - acting as a stopgap for West Ham post-Slaven Bilić.
Adding even more fuel to those rumours, The Mirror report that Moyes will be re-appointed at West Ham within 24 hours of Pellegrini's sacking.
Although West Ham want to approach free agents to make things easier when negotiating with their new manager, joint-chairman David Sullivan said upon Pellegrini's departure that the club wanted to appoint someone who could get then 'back on track' with their ambitions.
"It is with great disappointment that we’ve had to make this decision. Manuel is a gentleman and it has been a real pleasure to work with someone of his calibre," Sullivan said.
"However, it has become clear that a change is required to get the Club back on track in line with our ambitions this season. We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal."
