David Moyes Looks to Appoint Everton Legend on Coaching Staff After Stuart Pearce Move is Blocked

New West Ham United manager David Moyes is looking to appoint former Everton hero Alan Stubbs as his defensive coach, according to reports.

The news comes after a move to appoint Stuart Pearce was blocked due to his comments about West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

Pearce was Moyes' assistant during his first stint at the London Stadium in the 2017/18 season, and publicly criticised the Hammers' hierarchy for not renewing the Scottish manager's contract at the time.

According to the Star, this paves the way for former Hibernian manager Alan Stubbs to be appointed onto Moyes' backroom staff.

The former Celtic defender played under Moyes during his time at Everton, and has been approached about the opportunity of becoming a defensive coach at West Ham.

48-year-old Stubbs is now back living in Merseyside after his stint as St. Mirren manager ended in 2018, and is expected to give the Irons an answer in the coming days.

Things had started well for David Moyes in his second stint at West Ham after he picked up two wins from two games following Manuel Pellegrini's dismissal last month.

However, his new side came unstuck on Friday night against Sheffield United, losing 1-0 after having a late equaliser controversially ruled out by VAR.

Aside from the frustration with the officials the former Manchester United boss will also have to contemplate losing his first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to injury for the second time this season.

It is expected that the Hammers are going to re-sign Irish goalkeeper Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough for a fee of around £4m as a replacement after David Martin and Roberto both failed to convince between the sticks.

The completion of the deal was delayed by a problem with the 32 year-old's medical, but it is now expected to be pushed through after the injury to West Ham's Polish stopper.
