David Moyes Speaks Out on Gedson Fernandes & Hints at Other West Ham Targets

David Moyes has declared time will tell whether he will regret losing out to Tottenham in West Ham's bid to sign midfielder Gedson Fernandes.

The Hammers were linked with the 21-year-old, who joined London rivals Spurs on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy on Wednesday, and were even thought to have agreed a deal in principle with Benfica.

However, while the deal eventually fell through West Ham's manager has distanced the club from the move and in turn revealed they are chasing other midfield targets.

When asked whether he was disappointed in missing out on Fernandes, Moyes said as quoted by Football London: "Well I don't know, we will see in time. I'm sure Tottenham will see him as a good signing.

"We've got other targets we have in mind and are looking at and will look to bring in the right ones if we can do."

West Ham remain keen on strengthening in the middle of the park, with midfield stalwarts Declan Rice and Mark Noble the only credible options available for selection. Jack Wilshere continues to struggle for fitness, while Carlos Sanchez has failed to inspire any degree of confidence in his ability.

The Irons have been linked with a loan move for Ross Barkley, who has featured just seven times for Chelsea in the Premier League so far this season, failing to register a goal or an assist. Milan's Frank Kessie is also rumoured to be of interest to the Stratford outfit.

West Ham have already confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Darren Randolph, who joins for a second spell at the club as back-up for the injured Lukasz Fabianski after spending two and a half seasons with Middlesbrough.

Moyes' side are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they host Carlo Ancelotti's Everton, with the Irons eager for a win to put more breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone. They remain just one point above 18th placed Aston Villa.
