Direct assurances for Roeder...

West Ham are also adamant that at no point has it been suggested to Liverpool that he is on offer, branding it "nonsense" and a "rumour"...

West Ham MD Paul Adridge said: "We have made our position quite clear regarding Fredi. We are not looking to sell him. We have not had contact from Liverpool regarding him and nor do we wish to. The rumour is absolute nonsense."

On the topic of these rumours, believed to have originated at a radio station, Glenn told the official site:

"When the first speculation started last week I got in contact with Gerard Houllier by phone and he said:

'Glenn, if Liverpool signed every player we were linked with we would have a huge squad.'

"He did ask me if he was for sale, and I said 'absolutely not', to which he replied 'okay, that is the end of it.'

"Paul Aldridge also spoke to Rick Parry, who confirmed that if Fredi was not for sale they were not interested.

"It is disappointing this speculation has come up again, and I don't know who is driving it - but it has got to stop."

News that Fredi claimed he "had spoken to Liverpool" was branded a misinterpretation - Glenn goes on to stress:

"I asked if Gerard had spoken to Fredi and he denied it, saying 'I wouldn't do that'.

"I trust Gerard and felt much happier after the conversation."

Glenn has said, however, that Hayden Foxe could be making the move to Portsmouth.

"I can confirm that Hayden has been given permission to speak to Portsmouth about a move," he is quoted to say on the official West Ham site.
