Dowie favourite for managers post

Dowie, currently working without a contract at Oldham Athletic, has been named 100/30 clear favourite to take over from Glenn Roeder who was sacked on Sunday.

"West Ham was the team I supported as a boy," said Dowie.

"People talk about experience, I think the way you get experience is to do the job. I am very experienced at dealing with not having much money, judging by the lack of finances we have had [at Oldham],' he added.

"I think I know as much as I need to know and you get better with age.

"It is case of whether people are brave enough to make that step. That was what happened at Oldham and it went well last year.

"But I am not going to hawk myself around for it considering Glenn has just lost the job. I have got a job to do at Oldham but there is no question West Ham is a fantastic club.

"It is nice to be linked with a job of that quality. They have fantastic support there and the ground is outstanding - it is a Premiership ground and they deserve to be back there."
