Defoe: Showing His Quality
The FA Cup has gone now so there’s little point dwelling on what might have been. Yes we were unfortunate but we didn’t help our cause. We conceded three poor goals against a half-decent side and you can’t afford to do that. Overall the performance and effort was good and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Jermain Defoe showed once again what he could do; the kid seems to have everything in his locker. The more I see him the more I'm impressed. He tore Chelsea to pieces and made Marcel Desailly look anything but a world-cup winner.

He’s done more than enough to earn a regular first team place. If that means upsetting a big name like Kanoute or Di Canio then so be it. I just hope Glenn has the strenght of character to make that decision.

I’m also delighted to hear that Trevor Sinclair has come off the transfer list. Personally I thought it was inevitable he’d do just this. Liverpool and Newcastle were the only real clubs to show any real interest and both seemed very reluctant to meet West Ham’s £10m asking price.

There’s no reason why Trevor can’t figure in Sven’s World Cup squad this summer. He’s proven to be very capable on the left wing and everyone knows what a problem position it is for England. In the last couple of months particularly he’s been impressive so an England call must beckon.

Our weekend match is against struggling Bolton, the only team we’re yet to play this season. They had a blinding start to the season so I’m very grateful we avoided playing them early in 2001/2002. At the moment there having a rough spell and aren’t in good form. So this is a decent time to play them and we must make it count. Anything less than a point would be disappointing.
