Magnusson's takeover of the club has given hope to so many West Ham fans who were disillusioned with the former regime at Upton Park

However, despite heavy investment, this season has been been a near disaster for the charismatic businessman from Iceland

After spending over £100 million on the club and new players since taking over, he has had very few chances to express his happiness.

The ever-vocal traveling army of West Ham fans which arrived at Wigan at the weekend gave the Chairman most delight.

He told the official site, "
"I feel that I must say something after yesterday's game, because the support of our fans was amazing," says Mr Magnusson.

"It was a wonderful sight to see them all together and they were an absolute credit to the Club.

"From the first minute to the last, they did not stop singing and cheering for the team, and they should be proud of the part they played in our victory. As I sat there watching the game and listening to our fans, I felt so proud to be the Chairman of West Ham United

"I would also like to congratulate Alan and the players on the performance and result yesterday. They played with such determination and skill, and fully deserved to win the game.

"We can now look forward to next Saturday's final home match against Bolton Wanderers with confidence and belief. I know that our fans will create another fantastic atmosphere and I am sure the players can respond again with a winning performance."
