James kept goal for the first forty-five minutes of the international at Portman Road and made some fine saves as England went into the break with a slender 1-0 advantage.
"David James did very well for us - he was excellent, " said Eriksson.
"They had some great chances in the first half and David saved us with two or three very, very good saves."
James was replaced at half-time by Leeds keeper Paul Robinson.
