Fans Optimistic For Forthcoming Season

Foxe - To Portsmouth for £400,000
Glenn Roeder's summer of spending doesn't quite add up, with twelve (yes - twelve) players having left the club, with Svetoslav Todorov also going at the end of last season, but only four players coming in. And one of those is a loan signing.

In fact, a Hammers reserve XI could be made out of the players that have left:
Shaka Hislop; Rigobert Song, Gary Charles, Hayden Foxe, Steve Potts, Ragnvald Soma; Michael Ferrante, Adam Newton, Omer Riza; Paul Kitson, Svetoslav Todorov; Subs: Craig Forrest, Kes Metiri.

And FOUR of those 12 players were bought - Song, Soma, Foxe and Todorov - for undisclosed sums. Song would surely have been for more than £1m (well, he was bought for £2.5m), Soma was not more than £500,000, Foxe £400,000 and Todorov for £750,000. That is a total of over £2m. Where has that money gone?

And with all those players off our books, only three players have signed contracts - Breen, Van der Gouw and Soffiane. The only difference is that the new players are hopefully of superior quality. Breen certainly is, and Soffiane looks better than Todorov. Van der Gouw is a good reserve keeper, as proven at Man Utd.

But regardless of this, 50% of Hammers fans voted, perhaps in optimism more than realistic hope, that West Ham will end up in the Europe. But hopes are fairly confident of a top half finish, with over 80% predicting a top half finish. And only a mere 5% think relegation will be the result. The full details are below.
