Farewell to Stevie?

Potts: End of an Era
There will be emotions flying all over the place on Saturday - though for varying reasons. Hopefully there will be feelings of ecstasy at the realisation of finishing on a high after beating Bolton at home. And with the added satisfaction of Tottenham failing to beat Leicester and the Hammers finishing seventh in the Premiership.

However, for several players currently on the books at Upton Park, it is bound to be a sad day. And some of the fans will certainly be sad to see the back of some players who are out of contract.

One of the players available on a Bosman free this summer at West Ham is Steve Potts is a rare breed in the game today. Although born in the States, Steve is claret and blue through and through, and has been a player at the club since 1984, and a youth player before that. In fact he was at West Ham before Jermain Defoe was even born.

How many young players today will stay with the same club through thick and thin for the next 15 years? For virtually all of their footballing life?

A rare thing indeed, and I'm sure all fans will be hoping that Glenn gives in to sentimentality and plays Steve on the last day of the season - and an end of an era for both the club and the player himself.
