Garcia Staying At Upton Park

Garcia - Signing a New Contract
Richard Garcia is a product of the West Ham Australian Football Academy, that the Hammers sold to Southampton in order to help finance the development of Upton Park.

Other names that came out of Oz include current reserves midfielder Michael Ferrante, defender Chris Coyne and it also helped us find Stan Lazaridis.

He would have gained recognition at Upton Park much sooner, had he not been sidelined with a cruciate knee ligament injury for almost a year. Nevertheless, despite his setbacks, he started for West Ham last week against Bolton, and according to Glenn, there could be more in the future:

"I was very pleased with Richard's performance at Bolton. He worked hard and showed the form he has shown in the reserves this season. His contract runs out in the summer and we are discussing a new deal," said Roeder.

Garcia told the club site: "I'm very happy here. West Ham is a great club and at the moment I am really enjoying myself. I'm just happy to be in the squad and on the brink so hopefully I can push up sooner or later.

"It is good experience and hopefully I will just be in the frame the same as I have been. It is the same as normal, really."

The new two year deal would see Richard stay at Upton Park till 2004, in which time Glenn should be able to assess his worth to the club.
