Williams: To Birmingham
Tom Williams left Upton Park last summer on a free, when Glenn told him he would be better off looking for first team football elsewhere, but he still thanks the club for rescuing him from the footballing wilderness.

He has playing for Walton and Hersham, having left pro football, and the Hammers bought him for £40,000 whilst he was actually working at a bank. Tom says of his time at West Ham to the official site:

"The coaching there was good, and Glenn said that I needed to play games, so it proved to be the right move."

The initial move to Birmingham may be on loan, but should turn out to be a permanent move, and with a fee approaching £1m being mentioned, this can only be a good thing for the Irons. West Ham inserted a sell-on clause into his contract stating that 50% of any future fee goes to the club.

"In a way I'm surprised by the fee, but that is what today's prices are for a player of my age that is not doing bad," Tom continues. "It is small compared to what everyone is going for but it is just pleasing that I have been recognised and I am moving on again.

"It is strange because this time last year I was going on loan to Peterborough because I needed games to get experience - hopefully I can get some games at Birmingham now, and West Ham will get half the fee."
