Speaking to the official West Ham site, Sheringham said “I felt my thigh again so I doubt if I will be involved on Saturday.

We will have to see how it is – but two games a week has always been tough.”

Matthew Etherington is also a doubt after twisting his ankle at the start of the first half on Tuesday night against Stoke.

Etherington revealed – “The ankle was quite sore because I went over on it and twisted it. I am not very happy with that but these things happen.”

”However it is two weeks today since I had the groin op and it went well against Stoke - I didn't feel it at all, so full marks to the surgeon.”

Two weeks' recovery is unheard of because normally it takes four or five weeks to come back from a hernia - that has gone well and is a big positive to take out of Tuesday.”
