HAMMERS LEGENDS RECOGNISED BY FANS

Last updated : 09 December 2004 By Plymouth_hammer

The result of a national survey has seen Bobby Moore and Sir Geoff Hurst both secure places in the Top 10 of the most sought after player’s autographs of all time.

The survey, conducted by The Football Fans Census on behalf of Into Football, asked which player’s autograph fans would most like to own and over 2000 football supporters from over 120 clubs took part.

Overall, Brazilian legend Pele finished on top of the pile, scoring over twice as many points as his nearest rival, Moore – coincidentally a man with whom he shared a greatly respected relationship throughout his career.

England’s nemesis Diego Maradona, who many claim to be the world’s greatest ever player, finished third. Current players are first to be represented by Thierry Henry who narrowly pipped the modern game’s most famous player David Beckham into fourth spot.

The Top 10 are completed by a star-studded gallery of current players and former legends. George Best comes in sixth ahead of the current World Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane who, in turn, is followed by Alan Shearer and Eric Cantona, with England’s hat-trick hero of the 1966 World Cup Final Hurst completing the illustrious Top 10.

Men want Pele. Women want Beckham. It’s official, although Pele’s is the most sought after footballer’s autograph in Britain – most women would rather have David Beckham’s.

To see which other Hammers luminaries and old boys made it into the Top 100 including Jimmy Greaves and Paolo Di Canio see the list below.
