Hammers loss out at home to Everton

The Hammers went ahead in the game when Carlton Cole produced a fine strike to beat Tim Howard after only 14 minutes.  Both teams then had chances before the break but neither could convert.

In the second half Everton hit back through Victor Anichebe just after the hour before Carlton Cole was bizarrely dismissed by Anthony Taylor for nothing more than a raised foot.

The sending-off seemed to take the wind out of the Hammers and they were then undone by Steven Pienaar on 73 minutes.

With only 10 men, the Hammers were unable to hit back against a resolute Toffee’s.  The game then ended with another bizarre sending off as Everton’s Darren Gibson was dismissed for an innocuous challenge on Mark Noble.  He left the field to applause from the whole ground who seemed dumbstruck at the referring on display.
