Hammers stutter to Sunderland draw

Despite dominating for large periods of the game the Hammers were unable to find a winner after again going a goal down.

James Tomkins gave away a penalty on 21 minutes after a challenge on Adam Johnson.  Jordi Gomez stepped up to convert for the home side.

In-form Stewart Downing was the man to rescue the Hammers only 8 minutes later when he took the ball and cut inside smashing home from 20 yards.

The Hammers missed chances to win the game but will ultimately be happy to come away from the North East with a point and their fine recent unbeaten run intact.
