Hammers To Appeal Defoe Red Card

If the appeal fails the England Under 21 international is facing a five game ban.

The sending off against the Baggies was his second of the campign and so means an automatic four game ban.

Defoe had already received a yellow card during the game which brought his bookings total to five which warrants another one game ban bringing the total to five games.

"I still feel Jermain didn't touch the fellow and it certainly didn't warrant a straight red, which I will be appealing against this morning," Hammers boss Alan Pardew told the clubs official website on Monday.

"Maybe a second booking and a sending off but certainly not a straight red because from where I was standing and having seen the video I don't think he made contact with the boy, so there you go."
