Jack Wilshere Set to Miss Remainder of Season as Disastrous Summer Move Gets Worse

West Ham are concerned that summer signing Jack Wilshere could be forced to miss the rest of the season through injury due to his persistent ankle problems.

The former Arsenal star swapped the Emirates for London Stadium at the start of the season but has only been able to make five Premier League appearances for the club.

Wilshere featured in the opening four games of the campaign before missing months because of surgery on his left ankle. The 25-year-old then returned for a cameo appearance against Newcastle in December but was then forced to undergo work on his right ankle and he's been missing ever since.

Initially, Wilshere was meant to return to the matchday squad after this weekend's round of fixtures, but the Daily Mail claim that West Ham are now concerned they could lose the England international for the rest of the season.

Now it's understood that the club have put an eight-week recovery period on Wilshere, although they are quietly concerned that they won't see the boyhood West Ham fan won't return until the 2019/20 season.

Despite only making a handful of appearances this season, Wilshere actually has an assist to his name. He set up Felipe Anderson's last-minute strike against Newcastle United to round off a comfortable afternoon for the Hammers.

But Wilshere never really had a chance to settle into Manuel Pellegrini's first team and there were even complaints early on that a partnership with Mark Noble would unbalance their side, something which showed in their four consecutive defeats at the start of the campaign.
