Jarrod Bowen Explains Why He Chose to Join West Ham on Deadline Day

New West Ham United signing Jarrod Bowen has described his decision to join the club in January as a 'no-brainer'.

After an electric start to the season with Hull City, which saw him rack up 16 goals and six assists, Bowen sealed a £25m move to West Ham on deadline day to test himself in the top flight.

He had been linked to a number of other sides, including the likes of Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, but Bowen has told ​Sky Sports that he did not hesitate to accept ​West Ham's offer.

​"It all happened quite quickly. I think the West Ham bid arrived on Thursday evening, so I woke up on Friday excited to see what the day brought," he revealed.


"I knew there had been other teams interested in January, but West Ham were the only ones that I knew had put a concrete offer in. The others, like ​Crystal Palace, came from nowhere a little bit and I wasn't aware that they had actually made an official bid.

"In the end, it was a no-brainer to join West Ham, but I still needed to take five minutes to myself because it's a big moment for anyone to move club, especially off the pitch when it involves moving to a big city. You've got to take every single factor into consideration because it's a big decision in your life. It's one that I've made now and I'm very happy."

Bowen was then asked to explain why he wanted to join the Hammers, and he admitted that he feels as though the club has the potential to grow into something really impressive.

"The size of the club was a big attraction, so was the new stadium," he added. "I was able to walk out on the pitch on the Friday night and get a sense of just how big it is. Working under this gaffer as well. He's got so much experience and he's worked with and improved a lot of young players.

"Then there's the squad that is here. I'm still young and I know I'm not the complete package yet, so I thought I could learn off them. These are players who have played at the top for however many years and that's not a coincidence. There were a lot of positive factors."
