The 24-year-old left back has been in sparkling for this season after his summer move to Upton Park and after watching Fulham’s Wayne Bridge injure himself in the 2-1 friendly victory over Uruguay, Konchesky believes he has a chance to make the final 23-man squad.

He told the Daily Mirror, “It would be a dream come true to play for England at the World Cup - it would mean so much to me.

“It is gutting for Wayne that he got injured against Uruguay. I hope he gets fit quick because you never like to see anybody get injured like that.

“But hopefully I am still in Mr Eriksson's plans and if I keep playing well for West Ham, and West Ham keep doing well as they are - you never know.

“I think I have improved this season and now I am playing the best football of my career.

“If I got the chance to go to the World Cup, I don't think I would let anyone down.”
