Midfield Cover At Upton Park

Glenn stated at the beginning of the week his intention to bring a midfielder to Upton Park following the blows to Steve Lomas and Don Hutchison in the Boro match on Saturday, and Rennes midfielder Jocelyn Gourvennec arrived on Tuesday afternoon on trial.

Currently staying in the West Ham Hotel, 29 year old Gourvennec comes from the same club as former Hammers keeper Bernard Lama and last season's midfield loan flop, Christian Bassila.

Speaking on his official site at www.jocelyngourvennec.com , Jocelyn said: "I arrived in London yesterday [Wednesday] for a trial at West Ham. The coach, Glenn Roeder, called at the beginning of week asking me to come to London, stating he wanted me. I trained this morning [Thursday] but don't know how long I will stay.

The Rennes midfielder points out that he is not the only French player at the club: "I've met the other French players at the club - Frederic Kanouté, Laurent Courtois and Sebastien Schemmel - and talked with them to learn more about West Ham. They're a group of good young players who work hard."

"We'll see whether this trial can lead to something. I am there to have fun, play, show what I can do, and frankly, it is a really pleasant environment. I had already had an idea [of English football] when I came on trial in Leicester. The training sessions are good, the players work seriously but always with devotion, and everyone seems to have fun. It's good to be here."

Glenn has a couple of weeks to decide whether to take the player on loan.
