The young midfielder stole the show with two second half goals to stake his claim for a starting berth in Sam Allardyce’s first team against Cardiff City.

The Hammers went 1-0 down on the stroke of half time as Spanish winger Capel converted a penalty after Matt Taylor was adjudged to have handballed inside in the area.

The second half was as frenetic as the first.  Just before the hour, the Hammers were back in it as Captain Nolan converted a flick of from Modibo Maiga and then Morrison hit a 25 yard strike into the bottom corner to give them the lead.

With 10 minutes remaining Morrison headed in from a Joe Cole cross to make it 3-1 but with 5 minutes left Sporting got themselves back in it by bundling a free-kick over the line.

Despite some sustained pressure the Hammers were able to hold out for another pre-season victory.
