Newcastle finalising Harrison Ashby signing from West Ham

West Ham full-back Harrison Ashby is due to undergo a medical on Tyneside on Sunday afternoon after agreeing a transfer to Newcastle, 90min understands.

The Magpies have been looking for a new right-back since the summer to provide some cover for Kieran Trippier and they came close to striking a deal for 21-year-old Ashby back then, only for talks to collapse.

This time around, a deal has been struck, with sources confirming to 90min that a fee of around £3m has been agreed between the two sides.

Ashby is expected on Tyneside imminently to put the finishing touches on the transfer, with Newcastle fans now waiting for confirmation of another deal after £45m signing Anthony Gordon was spotted inside St James' Park.

Scotland youth international Ashby was on the bench for West Ham's first three Premier League games this season but has been out of the matchday squads ever since, and Newcastle have now given him the chance to reignite his career elsewhere.

He will come in to offer cover for 32-year-old Trippier, who has been among the Premier League's top performers this summer as part of a Newcastle defence which has taken the division by storm under Eddie Howe.

Trippier has made 20 appearances in the league this season, chipping in with one goal and four assists and keeping a clean sheet in no fewer than 12 of those games. The England international has also recently signed a new contract until 2025.
