Newton's Upton Park Career Over?

Last updated : 08 March 2002 By Mike Reich
Newton: On loan at Orient
It all seemed to be going so well for Adam Newton when he was named man of the match in the 1999 FA Youth Cup Final, when the side won 9-0 on aggregate.

The young winger then made his full debut against Coventry in September 1999, but has failed to cement any sort of place in the first team at Upton Park, and is available on a free in the Summer.

Glenn Roeder has failed to use Newton much since he took charge of the club, and is one of a number of players leaving the club at the end of the season. In order to place Newton in the shop window, a loan deal with Orient would seem a good idea.

He will be at the O's for a month, with a possibility of a permanent signing should the loan period prove successful. This is his third period on loan, following loan spells at both Notts County and Portsmouth.
