Now, with the injury still troubling him, he has gone under the surgeons knife once again and will be missing from Glenn Roeders side until around Christmas time.
"It is a big concern. He had an operation at the end of last season and we hoped it would cure the problem. It hasn't," said Roeder.
"He will now require another which will take him out until December time. It's a big blow. If you were cornered and faced a fight to get out you would want Steve on your shoulder."
