Noble Pen Sinks Scousers

The Hammers dominated the first-half and will have felt unlucky not to go in ahead at half time. Luis Boa-Morte was guilty of two poor misses and a Mark noble free-kick was deflected onto the bar.

The second half saw Curbs introduce Dean Ashton and Matty Etherington as he reverted to a 4-4-2 formation in an attempt to win the game. This change never quite worked as Liverpool came into the game more. With only ten minutes left on the clock Curbs replaced a tiring Carlton Cole with Jonathon Spector and reverted back to their 4-5-1 formation in an attempt to regain control of the middle of the park.

With the game heading for a draw, Freddie Ljungberg raced into the Liverpool box and got up-ended by Jamie Carragher's outstretched leg. Noble, who outshone his midfield rival Gerrard all night, took hold of the ball and coolly slotted past the goalkeeper with only seconds left of injury time to give the Hammers a well deserved victory.
