Pardew: Not Good Enough

Three-nil down at half time the players left the pitch to the sound of booing from sections of the Upton park crowd and substitute Bobby Zamora's goal for the Hammers in the second period did nothing to quell the fans frustration at the final whistle.

"It simply was not good enough," Pardew said after the game.

"We lost battles all over the pitch and had no answer to their aerial power up front.

"We needed more, particularly in defence, where we missed Christian Dailly.

"We didn't have the confidence to deal with Wigan. We knew they would be motivated after last season and can't hide behind such a poor display.

"We have some work to do."
