The 23-year-old Southend striker was released by the Hammers just before Pardew took over in 2003.
Pardew said of Freddy, “I have sent many scouts to look at him and the reports come back to suggest that he has a very good chance.
“Of course he is an old boy of ours and that hurts as you do not want to let good people go.
“Sometimes players come on a little bit later. By his own admission, Freddy has nailed himself down more as a professional.
“We will keep watching and reviewing him.”
