Pards ready for selection dilemma

David Gold, Chairman of fellow strugglers Birmingham City, has this week voiced his concerns against Pardew fielding an under-strength side but Pardew dismissed concerns that his team will not be going all out for the victory over their former manger Harry Redknapp.

Pardew told Sky Sports News, “David Gold happens to be a neighbour of mine and I respect him and everybody involved in that situation.

“That's exactly how I have to approach this game (Portsmouth) - with respect, and that's what we'll do.

“I can assure everybody, whatever team I pick, we will try and win that game with everything we've got.

“It's a hell of a dilemma for me because we have to pay respect to all the people involved in what is a scrap at the bottom of the Premier League and our own position. We want to get into Europe.

“I've got two games in the space of three days on the back of extra time and real tough game against Bolton so it's very, very difficult.

“Whatever I say, I will get in trouble, so I need to steer away from it to some degree. As a manager, I want to win trophies. We can't win the Premier League and sixth place is not going to be as attractive as winning the FA Cup.

“So I think the focus, more so, is on Monday night. But I can't get away from the responsibility I have as West Ham manager to win on Saturday.”
