Pardew is seeking to calm the fears of the supporters who for years have seen the club allow top young stars to be sold on for huge sums of money.

The Hammers' great start to the season has the Premiership's big guns admiring some of the Academy’s new talent. Young Anton Ferdinand is said to be on the wanted list of both Liverpool and Arsenal but Pardew is determined not to let this particular young crop of talent to slip through his fingers.

He said, “Mistakes have been made in the past with regard to selling players and we can't allow that to happen again," said Pardew, who is enjoying a fine season in the top-flight.

”The big mistake that was made here was the sale of Rio Ferdinand. If we did get a bid of £15 million for Anton Ferdinand, I'm pretty sure that the chairman would not want to do it.”
